Lightness
I decided to partecipate in a contest organized by CoseBelleFestival, with theme Lightness: www.cosebellefestival.it/contest/2023
I thought for several days about what lightness meant to me. Thinking of illustrating some moments of life that gave me that feeling.
But, after reading the contest abstract, I realized that it was more interesting to see lightness as a mental attitude in facing life. Lightness, like life is a game. When you play you are light-hearted, you don’t think about the idea of making mistakes because it is a game and, even if you make a mistake, you can always try again.
The image that came to my mind is: trying to add another piece to the balancing act that life often is. Without fear of making mistakes, despite the difficulty of the game itself. Because it is a game and not something irreparable.
If someone had seen Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, they might also catch the quote from a scene of the movie. In the film, in this scene, there was a sensation opposite to lightness, but I deliberately transformed it. Because seen from the point of view of the game the same image can convey the opposite sensation in my opinion.
